Our workshops and classes are a great way to get creative, meet new people, share stories, and laugh! Whether you have a history in the theatre, have always dreamt of performing, or just want to try something new, these classes are the perfect place to start.
This spring we have a wide range of theatrical and performance-based classes to get those creative juices flowing. All our classes are facilitated by local theatre artists and educators ready to share their “theatre know-how” with you. We would love to see you there!

Acting: Scripted Scenes

Always dreamt of being on the stage? This class is the perfect place to begin. Diving into short theatrical scenes, participants will learn how to explore a script, develop a character, and collaborate with their fellow actors. Jump in and have fun on the stage!
Improv: Beginner

Improv is all about spontaneity, collaboration and, most importantly, FUN! Learn how to create characters and make up stories on the spot in this introductory class. Students will start with the basics of improv and develop a strong foundation in improvisational theatre. Perfect for anyone who has never done improv before. “No scripts and no plans – all you need is YOU!”

Improv: Intermediate
May 6, 13, 27, June 3 (no class May 20)

Continue to hone your skills and take your improvisation to the next level in this intermediate class. Participants will add to their repertoire of improv games and techniques, and learn to create strong characters and improvised stories using narration and scene work. Perfect for anyone who has previous improv experience (Hint: register for “Improv: Beginner” and get all the experience you’ll need).

Performance Storytelling

We all have stories to tell – some true and some completely made up. Participants will learn how to take their stories from the telling to the stage, developing a short performance complete with narration and characters. Through theatre games, a bit of improv, laughter and a whole lot of fun participants will share stories and watch them come alive!

Important information:
- All classes will be held at the Westend Seniors Activity Centre (9629 176 Street, Edmonton, AB T5T 6B3). Click here to get directions on Google Maps.
- Refund policy – Cancellations made up to 7 days prior to the start date of the program will receive a refund minus a $25 administration fee. There are no refunds after that time, but we can offer a credit for future programs.
- Class cancellation – If it is necessary to cancel a class, participants will be notified prior to the start date and issued a full refund of registration fees.

- We ask that participants stay home if they have any symptoms of COVID-19, even if mild and even if they are fully vaccinated.

Kelly is a senior Improvisor with Rapid Fire Theatre, teaching Improv around Edmonton to all ages for the last 7 years. She is all about seeing the benefits improv brings to everyday life. And most importantly, getting some time in your week to just let loose, be silly, and have fun!

Quinn Contini
Improv: Intermediate
Quinn is an improviser, instructor, and emcee, and has been at it for over 10 years. He’s taught and performed from coast to coast in Canada and the USA, he’s been around Europe twice, and as far as Dubai. Select credits include Tightrope Impro Theatre, Marv n’ Berry: Sketch Comedy, Offbook: The Improvised Musical and Rapid Fire Theatre.

Becca Barrington
Performance Storytelling
Becca has been working with GeriActors since 2010. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Drama from the University of Alberta, and over 10 years of experience in arts management, facilitation and community-based theatre. She also has the joy of working with Rising Sun Theatre as their Artistic Director. She loves listening to and sharing stories. Most importantly, she loves bringing stories to life onstage!
