AudioGeris is a collection of audio plays by GeriActors & Friends.

While Covid-19 presented many challenges, it also inspired new ways of sharing stories and connecting with audiences.

In March 2020, our performance company, GeriActors & Friends, moved to virtual rehearsals, and in 2021 we produced our first audio play, Way Back. Through this audio-only experience, our stories were brought to life in a new way and engaged listeners from across Canada, the US, the UK, Trinidad, and even Australia.

The success of Way Back inspired AudioGeris. Through the support of the Canada Council for the Arts we are adapting 3 of our original stage plays for audio.

“I listened to it like a radio play, one of my favourite things to do with my first transistor radio way back in the 50’s.”

Reading the Signs

Just as they are inventing rear view cameras, warning buzzers for changing lanes, and self-driving cars, Jack has to give up driving. This play was inspired by our members’ experiences with driving and giving up one’s driver’s license. Click here to listen.

Spinning the Bottle

Interweaving Shakespeare’s classic King Lear text with stories and commentary from our own lives, this explores the themes of elder care, invisibility, and the maintenance of agency in later life.
